Which foreign tourists visit Slovenia the most, and when do they come?
Experimental data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, based on foreign mobile users roaming on Slovenian networks, offers a detailed view.

Top Visitors

According to the data, tourists from Austria (13.3%), Germany (13.1%), and the Netherlands (12.3%) account for almost 40% of all visitors. In the past two years, Austrian tourists have become the most important group, overtaking Germans. An interesting feature of Austrian tourism is that, in percentage terms, July and August are their least important months. This contrasts sharply with German tourists, whose presence peaks in summer. In the past two years, visitors from the Netherlands have also surpassed Germans in share.

Croatian tourists rank fourth in the observed period from 2021 to 2025 and are strongly concentrated in the winter months. The fastest-growing group is tourists from France. Over the past two years, they have exceeded both their absolute numbers and monthly shares from the previous year, making France the fourth most important source market for Slovenian tourism in that period. Another group showing strong growth is Polish tourists. Their presence is especially pronounced in summer, with Poles accounting for more than 5% of all tourists in Slovenia in July 2025.

Non-European Visitors

Outside Europe, tourists from the United States dominate, representing 47.2% of all non-European tourists in 2024. They are followed by visitors from Turkey (7.8%), India (7.7%), and China (7.6%).

So if Slovenia feels busy year-round, that is because it is. Apparently, everyone agrees that this small country is worth a visit, just not always at the same time or for the same reasons. And also the space is limited.
